The Miami Beach Golf Club was originally opened in 1923 as Bayshore Golf Course, in conjunction with Alton Beach, aimed at bringing wealthier residents from the Northeast. The course operated in a normal manner until World War II when the U.S. Army started renting out the land to use as a training course. The Army paid $1 per year.
